Artist Profile

After studying chemistry at.Auckland University of Technology for 3 years, and working in the science industry, Lush left NZ to travel the world visiting art galleries, museums, churches and ruins; soaking up the history, abundant art forms and a variety of different cultural influences.
After 8 years away she returned and undertook several creative courses: first in pottery with Margaret Sumich, Rick Rudd and Philip Luxton; then in concrete sculpting with Pardo Jackson. In 1993 Lush established Art by the Sea and in 1999 Art Of This World, both galleries in Devonport selling a wide range of unique art by emerging and established New Zealand artists. She became proficient at understanding the commercial aspects of the art sector, critiquing artworks and promoting upcoming artists. In 2007 she sold her interest in Art Of This World to pursue her own personal art interests.
From 2007 Lush focused on studying art further, attending Hungry Creek Art & Craft School part time for 3 years, Elim Summer School, and courses at the Mairangi Arts Centre. During this period she won several art awards and was also a trustee of the Estuary Art Centre Trust (Orewa) for 3 years.
As well as expanding her own art practice, Lush continues to explore her passion for curating sculpture exhibitions. She became involved in establishing the sculpture trail at Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens in 2008 and curated the annual Exhibitions of sculpture there until 2018. In 2012 she curated the inaugural Harbourview Sculpture Trail in Harbourview People's Park, Te Atatu Peninsula and has curated the events there in 2014 and 2016. See Harbourview Sculpture Trail
In 2015, 2016 and 2017she curated the Parnell street event for White Night as part of the Auckland Art Festival see White Night Parnell and White Night Parnell Images
Lush also worked as an Artist mentor for the ArtsLab programme run from the Depot Artspace, a multidisciplinary art space in Devonport. See Depot Artspace and as Education Coordinator for Lake House Arts Centre before moving on to manage The Art Centre in Helensville and the Quarry Art Centre in Whangarei.
Lush’s work has been exhibited and sold at Splore 2015; Shapeshifter at The New Dowse, Lower Hutt: The Govett Brewster, New Plymouth: Collection Auckland Museum; Waitakaruru Sculpture Park; Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens; Art Of This World, Devonport; Harbourview Sculpture Trail Te Atatu Peninsula; Mairangi Arts Centre; Auckland Easter Show; Hilton Art Show; Satellite Gallery, Auckland City; The Depot, Devonport; Lava Glass, Taupo; Thornton Gallery, Hamilton; Art Fusions at Carmel College; Estuary Arts Centre,Orewa; Kings College Art Sale, Otahuhu; and at the Sydney Affordable Art Show.
