The Twist me and Turn me series of installations feature mirror glass floating and moving gently on bodies of water, ponds and small streams. ”Twist me and turn me” comes from the “Brownie” investiture story where the new brownie is taken in to the woods to a pond where she says to her reflection.
“Twist me and turn me and show me the elf
I looked in the mirror and there saw myself.
But I am not a brownie!”
The wise old owl says... “You can be if you try”
This work is questioning who we are.
Are we what we see in the mirror? Or are we what other people see?
Are we continually trying, striving to be that Brownie - doing good turns for others or seeking to find our true expressions of ourselves?
This installation is a metaphor for how we look at our selves and is exploring the relationships we have with ourselves.
